Imbecelia

A search for clarity in the nebulous world of a 34 year old who, while finding her mother's voice coming out of her lips more and more these days, is still no closer to affecting the air of mature serenity she hoped she would've been able to by now. She still laughs at people falling over, especially if they are wearing suits and/or look a bit posh. She has been accused of being an 'inverted snob'. But only by one person, and she was a twat.

THIS is an obscenity: You FUCKING IMBECILIC CUNTS.

I was in HMV a couple of weeks ago, just browsing, and amongst the DVD section was the film "Lesbian Vampire Killers". Well, I think it was called "Lesbian Vampire Killers" but I can't be absolutely certain, you see the word 'lesbian' was covered up with one of those yellow and black censored stickers.

What. The. Fuck.

The word 'lesbian' is not an obscenity. The sticker is so unnecessary. The film itself, however, is a fucking disgrace, by all accounts. They should just take it off the shelves completely and have done with it.

But it's not just HMV; I was in Sainsburys yesterday, and saw the same thing. I looked a bit closer. The sticker purported to be covering up an "explicit image". Oh, right, that'll be the cleavage shot to the LEFT of the word 'lesbian' that's ALSO covered by a sticker. You bunch of cunts, Sainsburys!  I actually felt like crying.

What hope is there of destigmatising homosexuality when this shit is allowed to go on?

I have emailed Sainsburys and I shall be writing to HMV, as they don't give you an email address for store-related queries - this is what I've said:

I was in a Sainsbury's store yesterday browsing the DVD section, and I saw the "Lesbian Vampire Killers" DVD. Well, I think that was the name of the film, because the word "lesbian" had been covered up with a sticker.

The sticker purported to be covering an "explicit" image, but the picture on the cover was a lot less graphic than some on the covers of video games, and several other DVDs depicting nudity or violence, none of which were stickered.

I am not offended by nudity, I am not going to take issue with images of violence here. What I am DISGUSTED with is your decision to censor the word 'lesbian' as if it is an obscenity. It is not.

Do Sainsburys really think that this word will offend their customers? I find it discriminatory and upsetting in the extreme, as it is an insidious form of homophobia that is all the more dangerous for the message it sends your many customers.

I would appreciate it if you would reply, and explain to me the reasons why you have decided to take this action.

Fucking bastards.
